Kang’s Boutique is a Brampton-based fashion startup focused on modern streetwear and casualwear for young adults aged 18–30. We want to collaborate with students to gather market data and develop a targeted marketing strategy to grow our online presence across Instagram, TikTok, and our e-commerce platform.


This will involve several concrete steps for the students, including:

  • Researching our target demographic (fashion-forward Gen Z and Millennial consumers in Ontario) and identifying their online shopping behavior, content preferences, and style trends.
  • Studying 3–5 direct competitors, such as Get Fresh Company (Toronto), Peace Collective, Maison Blonde, and local Shopify-based boutiques.
  • Identifying gaps and opportunities in how these competitors market themselves on social platforms.
  • Using this analysis to propose a weekly content plan (posts, Reels/TikToks, influencer shoutouts).
  • Developing mockups for Instagram posts or product campaigns using Canva, Figma, or similar tools.


Bonus steps in the process would include:

  • Recommending potential influencers or micro-creators that align with our brand.
  • Suggesting promotions, product bundles, or collaborations that would increase engagement or sales.


Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of Kang’s Boutique’s brand identity, target market, and digital growth goals
  • Completion of a competitive analysis comparing 3–5 boutique brands, with insights into their social media content, engagement levels, and brand tone
  • Development of a 1-week content calendar tailored to Instagram and TikTok, including post descriptions, timing, and objectives (e.g., drive traffic, promote a product, increase followers)
  • Creation of mock-up visuals for at least 3 original posts using tools like Canva, Adobe Express, or Figma
  • Integration of engagement strategies, such as hashtags, influencer tagging, or user-generated content ideas


Bonus steps would include:

  • Recommending 5–10 local micro-influencers with bios, contact info, and justification for brand fit
  • Suggesting launch strategies or seasonal campaigns, such as a back-to-school drop, summer bundle, or limited-time discount


Final deliverables should include:

  • A final strategy report (PDF or Google Doc) including all research findings, insights, and recommendations
  • A presentation deck (Google Slides or PowerPoint) summarizing key project elements for a client-ready pitch
  • Visual content samples or mock-ups in a shareable format (PNG, PDF, or embedded in slides)
